THE PAUL GALLAGHER ACCESS FUND

We invite you to apply to the Access Fund, named in memory of former Literacy BC President, Paul Gallagher.

The fund provides community-based learning centres with financial resources to assist adult students with emergency needs. Bus fare, daycare, clothing, gas money or other costs that would make a difference between attending and not attending a literacy/ABE program are covered by the fund.

Priority will be given to community based learning centres that demonstrate the greatest need for assistance related to adult literacy/ABE student access issues.

A minimum of four awards of $500-$1000 will be granted. The Allocation Committee of the Literacy BC Board will select the recipients.

Deadline for applications is May 4. Funds will be disbursed in August.

Successful applicants are required to administer the funds locally and provide Literacy BC with a brief report on how the funds are used and the impact they had.

“My father spent his entire working life in pursuit of new and novel approaches to the delivery of education within the community. Far from living in an ivory tower, he strongly believed in the right of all persons to have access to educational opportunities. He was also a strong advocate of the disadvantaged in our society and particularly those disadvantaged in their access to education.

The establishment of a Community Access Fund in my father’s name is a great honour to him and his life’s work.”

Edward Gallagher
