A Unique Collection
Snapshot of the Centre Collection

The library at Literacy BC, containing over 3000 catalogued items, is unique for its diverse collection of literacy-related resources. We develop our collection in the following areas, among others:

bullet adult basic education bullet literacy and health issues
bullet family literacy bullet learning disabilities
bullet workplace literacy bullet literacy programming
bullet aboriginal literacy bullet women's literacy
bullet clear language bullet computers and literacy
bullet seniors literacy bullet program development
bullet prison literacy bullet tutoring

Resources come in the form of teaching materials, basic readers, evaluation tools, practice exercises, research and reports. Most are print materials, but there are also videos, DVDs, CD-ROMS, audio- cassettes, kits, and games.

Our collection includes many unique BC-produced materials. In addition, we house items reviewed in the Literacy Materials Bulletin, a publication that offered qualitative reviews of exemplary literacy materials field-tested in BC classrooms.
