Lick the stamp and stick with literacy

Literacy Stamp Donate a nickel to family literacy by purchasing the stamp with a hole!

Pick up the family literacy stamp wherever stamps are sold. The stamp's special feature is a hole shaped like a piece of a child's puzzle which has been cut out of the centre.

This issue of the Literacy B. C. Newsletter is mailed to you with the new family literacy stamp. "Literacy Begins at Home" is the theme of the 45 cent stamp which sells for 50 cents. The extra nickel will be donated to support family literacy programs or projects in every province.

Ten million stamps have been produced and will be on sale until March 1997. If all the stamps are sold, approximately $500,000 will be raised for family literacy.

The stamp is the result of a partnership between Canada Post and ABC CANADA. Canada Post created the stamp as a fund raising vehicle and ABC CANADA is marketing the stamp and will distribute the funds.

ABC CANADA is a national, non-profit organization founded in 1990 to raise awareness of adult literacy issues.

Help ensure a brighter future for children and their parents by using the family literacy stamp. Here are some suggestions:
  • Use the family literacy stamp to mail your Christmas cards this year.
  • Tell all your friends and relatives about the stamp.
  • Give your postage meter a break! Use the family literacy stamp to mail your correspondence for one day.
  • Donate some family literacy stamps to your local literacy group.
