In Canada, ten additional papers are planned to explore the IALS data in greater depth. The papers will look at specific issues such as youth unemployment and specific target groups such as seniors.
Internationally, IALS data have now been collected in 12 countries. Fifteen additional countries plan to use IALS to survey the literacy skills of their populations in the fall of 1997.
We will continue to keep you informed about IALS developments in the Literacy B.C. Newsletter. Literacy B.C. is also planning regional roundtable discussions on IALS over the next several months. Watch our newsletter for more information.
Where can you get more information on IALS?
The two IALS reports, Reading the Future: A Portrait of Literacy in Canada (1996) and Literacy, Economy, and Society (1995), are available on loan from Literacy B.C.
