The Literacy B.C. Board has developed a strategic plan to shape our work over the next three years. The plan is based on the mission, values and beliefs of Literacy B.C. Key elements of the plan are:
- ensuring a strong, sustainable and diverse funding base in order to provide quality services to our constituents
- maintaining a strong and relevant organizational structure responsive to the needs of our constituents
- retaining at least 25% learner representation on the Board
- providing training, support and encouragement to learners
- ensuring our work is relevant and responsive to the needs of our members
- retaining quality staff to conduct the operations of the organization
The plan also ensures the continuation of services that will:
- connect learners in B.C. to the programs they need and want
- develop new and innovative strategies to create a stronger voice for learners
- provide information referral and consultation services through a provincial toll-free number
- build an electronic communications network for literacy in B.C.
- develop and support workforce education
- support the development of regional coordination and networks
- publish a regular newsletter
- play a leading role in the areas of training and good practice in B.C.
- proactively seek to influence and react to government policy regarding the access and delivery of basic skills/ literacy programs in B.C.
- strengthen our research activities to support our public awareness and advocacy work.
