The Literacy B.C. Board has developed a strategic plan to shape our work over the next three years. The plan is based on the mission, values and beliefs of Literacy B.C. Key elements of the plan are:

• ensuring a strong, sustainable and diverse funding base in order to provide quality services to our constituents
• maintaining a strong and relevant organizational structure responsive to the needs of our constituents
• retaining at least 25% learner representation on the Board
• providing training, support and encouragement to learners
• ensuring our work is relevant and responsive to the needs of our members
• retaining quality staff to conduct the operations of the organization

The plan also ensures the continuation of services that will:

• connect learners in B.C. to the programs they need and want
• develop new and innovative strategies to create a stronger voice for learners
• provide information referral and consultation services through a provincial toll-free number
• build an electronic communications network for literacy in B.C.
• develop and support workforce education
• support the development of regional coordination and networks
• publish a regular newsletter
• play a leading role in the areas of training and good practice in B.C.
• proactively seek to influence and react to government policy regarding the access and delivery of basic skills/ literacy programs in B.C.
• strengthen our research activities to support our public awareness and advocacy work.
