Celebrate Family Literacy on
Family Literacy Day (family in big comfy chair, reading) January 27

Wednesday, January 27, 1999 has been declared the first ever Family Literacy Day in Canada.

Honda Canada, in partnership with ABC CANADA, is leading a nation-wide advocacy campaign to promote awareness of family literacy.

The declaration of Family Literacy Day on January 27, and the presentation by Honda
of a one-hour BCTV television special that evening, are highlights of the campaign.

Turn on your TV at 8:00 p.m. on January 27 to watch Penny’s Odyssey, an original drama/adventure written especially for Family Literacy Day. The show targets families, particularly those with children aged four to ten.

Honda has also developed an innovative car and van activity kit for children. The kit contains games, books and other materials designed to keep kids (and parents) occupied during long trips. The kits are being distributed by Honda dealers across the country.

Honda will raise thousands of dollars to support family literacy in Canada. ABC CANADA will facilitate distribution of the funds.
