This has been a fairly quiet year for learner/tutor matches. We provided materials for families who wish to tutor their own family members and some learners were provided with individual help to reach specific goals necessary for course entry. ESL learners are being assisted in ABE classes at Northern Lights College. These learners have graduated from individual tutor help and represent most of the learners who required tutors.

The Fort St. John Literacy Society continues with partnerships and volunteers who do many things to bring services to learners in the community. Some help to train and match tutors while others raise funds to keep the Contact Centre open.

We are a partner in two workplace projects. One develops mathematics and reading curricula at the Industrial Education Advancement (IEA) School. The other, called WORKTRAC, offers short basic skills courses at workplaces.

The Fort St. John Public Library and Northern Lights College have joined us in a partnership to continue the Contact Centre for volunteer tutoring, and to develop a drop-in study hall for part-time learners. Right now there are eight available tutors for six active matches, and six pending. Two ABE instructors are offering study hall help to eight learners at the IEA School and at the Contact Centre.

During the year we participated in the Superior Propane "Fill for Literacy" campaign and organized a golf tournament that included Jack Munro as guest speaker.

The Rotary Club contributed generously for our work with learners in the community. Partnerships and volunteers keep us close to the community and help keep the literacy network alive.
