There is growing interest in literacy research among literacy practitioners and the academic institutions in B.C. Given this, we will undertake the following activities, in consultation with the B.C. Ministry of Advanced Education, Training and Technology, UBC and SFU:

  • Apply, with SFU, to Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SHHRC) for a development grant which will build a network of adult, workforce and family literacy practitioners in B.C. who are committed to conducting a series of individual and joint practitioner-based research projects over the next three years.
  • In consultation with SFU, UBC and interested practitioners, develop a three year strategic grant proposal to SSHRC which would:
  • Build the research capacity within the literacy practitioner community in B.C.
  • Provide a structure for mentoring and training opportunities
  • Establish an ongoing agenda and program of practitioner-based research
