Support for adult learners in B.C.

In order to increase support for and participation by learners in the literacy movement in B.C., we will undertake the following activities:

  • Support and coordinate the activities of the Provincial Learners Committee.
  • Plan and implement an action research project on How to Build a Provincial Learners Network
  • Publish two issues of a newsletter directly focused on learners’ events, projects and activities
  • Develop a closer relationship/partnership with the annual B.C. Regional Learner events

In addition, we will continue to:

  • Make sure that at least 25% of the Literacy BC board are learners
  • Mentor and support learners who participate on provincial and national boards and committees
  • Provide support and publicity to the annual Co-operators Learner Achievement Award
  • Continue our partnership with ABC CANADA in a national longitudinal research study on recruitment and retention in literacy programs.
Coordination, communication and support for the literacy community in B.C.
  • Provide leadership and support to an electronic conferencing and communication network for B.C
  • Provide leadership and support to the development of a regional and national electronic conferencing system
  • Provide a unique, relevant and responsive provincial literacy resource and information centre
  • Provide consultation, support and coordination for the development of regional literacy networks
  • Plan a provincial Conference and Forum for the Fall 2000 and celebrate Literacy BC’s 10th anniversary
