Word on the Street a Huge Success

Vancouver’s 5th annual Word on the Street Festival Sunday, September 26 attracted thousands of people to the downtown Vancouver Public Library for a day of author readings, book and periodical selling, family fun and entertainment. A special thanks to Starbucks Coffee Company for sponsoring Starbucks Literacy Lane, a celebration and promotion of family literacy with literacy and learning-based exhibitors, hands-on activities, and readings for all ages.

Literacy Lane featured a tree of paper leaves, on which children and adults were asked to write the names of their favourite books or authors. Shown here are a few of the “leaves” contributed by some of the visitors to the Literacy BC display table.

West Vancouver Secondary School student Nicholas de Cosson – son of our Family Literacy Project Manager, Jean Rasmussen – helped visitors to Starbucks Literacy Lane add the names of their favourite books and authors to the Literacy Tree.
