Family Summer Literacy Institute

photo

The 1999 Literacy BC Family Summer Literacy Institute — the first ever in B.C. — was held at Simon Fraser University, Burnaby Campus, July 12- 16. The Institute brought 79 people together for workshops, seminars, a Best Practices Forum on Family Literacy, and an informal gathering for networking, sharing ideas and expertise.

The Institute was designed to provide professional development opportunities for family literacy practitioners and coordinators in B.C. A number of practitioners from several other provinces and one territory also attended. Workshops/seminars and the Forum were designed to meet the expressed needs of the field, photoand facilitators were chosen for their expertise in these areas. Thank you to all the participants, facilitators and presenters who made the 1999 Family Summer Literacy Institute such a success. The Institute was a wonderful opportunity for learning and networking, and it was great to get reacquainted with old friends and make new ones. A comprehensive final report on the 1999 Family Summer Literacy Institute is available from Literacy BC at a cost of $6.00 for shipping and handling. Call Jean Rasmussen at Literacy BC if you would like the report sent to you.
