Message from the new Minister

Graeme Bowbrick was appointed Minister of Advanced Education, Training and Technology and Minister Responsible for Youth on February 29, 2000. Mr. Bowbrick served as the Parliamentary Secretary to the Premier from May 1998 to July 1999. He was also Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Education, Skills and Training from February to May 1998.

I am pleased to have been given the opportunity to serve as Minister of Advanced Education, Training and Technology and Minister Responsible for Youth. I am excited about my new portfolio and look forward to sharing information and ideas with Literacy BC and other educational and training organizations. As a Minister, a community member and a parent, I firmly believe that basic education is key to pursuing training and job opportunities, and in helping people lead more successful and productive lives.

Here in British Columbia, we are fortunate to have the kind of education and training system that supports people of all ages, and all walks of life, in reaching for and achieving their dreams. With education clearly front and centre in its priorities, government continues to implement measures to make post-secondary learning affordable, achievable and accessible to all. From tuition-free adult basic education, to programs helping youth earn post-secondary tuition credits, to a five-year tuition freeze and the most comprehensive student financial assistance package in Canada — British Columbia is rapidly becoming known as “the education province.”
