Fact and Opinion

An opinion is an idea that a person or group of people believes. It is not like a fact. It cannot be shown to be true. Here are some opinions:

Cats make good pets.

Sausage can ruin a good pizza.

Lemonade tastes better than orange juice.

Some people believe that cats make good pets. Others don't. They don't like cats, and they don't think cats are good companions. There is no way to prove either of these beliefs to be true. That is why the first statement is an opinion. In the same way, some people like sausage on pizza, and others don't; some people like lemonade better than orange juice, and others don't.
