WOMEN OF OUR TIME

This delightful series, Women of Our Time, is endowed with warm and accurate biographies of interesting women of the twentieth century. Many of their names have become "household words" which students have heard and they are eager to find out more about these people.

There are more than 20 books in this series all relating to women who have overcome an adverse situation or a disability to achieve success. Some of these women were unconventional in their time and became an inspiration for others to follow. The human interest covers the gamut of emotions from childhood determination to adult success. It is powerful reading for all levels of students. The subjects are from varied backgrounds and interests giving the reader a wide choice of topics when choosing the first book. Students report that the books are high interest and provide inspiration. They often choose to read several books from this series.

The books are divided into chapters (eight or fewer) of 6 to 10 pages in length. They are bound in colourful covers in an easy to hold size of 5 by 8 inches. The print is of good size, the writing is clear and direct, and the illustrations are plentiful, making it a very readable series.

At the back of each book the authors give to the reader their thoughts about how and why they wrote the book. This personal touch brings the book and the author close to the reader.
