Annual General Meeting

On September 28, Literacy BC hosted our Annual General Meeting at the Century Plaza Hotel in Vancouver, where past and present board members, friends and colleagues joined Literacy BC staff to celebrate our achievements over the past year and gather momentum for the coming year.

Guests were welcomed by President Marilyn MacDonald who introduced members of the incoming 2007-08 Board and thanked retiring Board members.

AGM Special Presentation

AGM guests were treated to a demonstration of our newly-launched online database, the BC Literacy Directory. (For more on this innovative new resource, see our Provincial News section.)

We also introduced a special “visual presentation” to accompany a poem written and recorded by this year’s PGI poet laureate, Barbara Adler. Barbara’s poem is about a woman named Florence who struggles with reading. Plans are in development to have the four-minute video presentation (created and developed by Literacy BC staff members Doreen MacLean and Sarah Housser) available for viewing and downloading on our website – watch for it soon.
