CALP Programs Get Boost - More Support for Community Literacy

On September 21, the provincial government also announced increased funding for community adult literacy programs (CALP). Read the press release here and the Backgrounder/fact sheet, which includes the list of the 62 programs funded for 2007-08 under CALP.

OLES: Federal Funding Presentation

September 7 - During the first week of September – as schools and colleges resumed classes, new literacy projects and programs got underway, and community groups geared up for another busy year – we hosted an information and discussion session in Vancouver on the topic of federal literacy funding.

The September 7th event featured Jean Francois Roussy, Director, Policy and Partnership Development, Office of Literacy and Essential Skills (OLES), Human Resources and Social Development Canada.

OLES has issued a Call for Proposals for federal funding with a deadline of October 31.

Okanagan Regional Literacy Coordinator, Leslie Kiehlbauch spearheaded a similar OLES information session with for practitioners outside the Lower Mainland, in Vernon on September 8.
