This handbook details the four-year history of a community-based family literacy program in Chilliwack.

The Families in Motion program model included parallel programs for adults and children, and parent and child time together.

The handbook takes us through the development of the program year-by-year:

  • Year One: Planning and Development (the building year)
  • Year Two: Implementing the Pilot Program (the scope of the project, its content, support system, community networks, evaluation; the support and commitment of the partners to the program.)
  • Year Three: Sustaining the Project Over Time (focuses on program maintenance, the well being of staff, community networking and program expansion; a close up of the work, caring and dedication staff bring to the program)
  • Year Four: From Seed Money to Community Sponsorship (the challenge of shifting responsibility from government seed money to community ownership)
