Increased investment to make adult basic education more accessible On September 7, the Province announced the second phase of the ReadNow BC literacy action plan. New investments worth $17.5 million will make adult basic education programs tuition-free and increase the financial aid available to help adult learners pay for books, transportation and childcare while they study. The tuition change takes effect immediately at BC's virtual school (LearnNowBC), in January 2008 at public post-secondary institutions, and in September 2008 for courses provided through school districts. Advanced Education Minister Murray Coell and Education Minister Shirley Bond also took the opportunity to publicly launch an online database of BC's literacy programs and services, developed and operated by Literacy BC.
