RiPAL-BC can help you with your 2006-07 BC Adult Literacy Cost-Shared Program

Applications for Research in Practice Projects

The guidelines for the 2006-07 BC Adult Literacy Cost-Shared Program have recently been released. Now is a great time to start thinking about ideas for a proposal to the ALCSP for a research in practice project.

RiPAL-BC is here to assist in this process: we can talk over ideas, help you develop a project, and give feedback on drafts.

"What is a research in practice project?"

Research in practice can take many shapes ... examples of the different ways projects can be developed:

* Currently, we are working with an instructor who is reflecting on her practice. The instructor sends a research friend her reflections about what happened in the classroom and receives feedback and questions. This is an example of a small, organic project that is currently being done without any funding but it could function as the first step towards a proposal for a larger project.

* A group of practitioners chooses a topic and works together on one group project, or a group of individual projects. If you have a burning issue you want to explore, and you'd like to find others who may be interested, let us know and we'll help you get connected and explore ideas.

* A research friend facilitates online and/or face-to-face conversations about research and about practice among literacy practitioners. Research in practice is more than doing research and projects that bring practitioners together to discuss and reflect fall within the research-in-practice umbrella. For example, a group of practitioners might want to meet to discuss existing research in a particular area and how to apply the findings to your practice.
