The work of Literacy BC is based

on the following statements

We believe that literacy is a human right

We are committed to the principle of lifelong learning

We recognize that literacy services must be based on community needs

We promote universal access to literacy programs

We promote the participation of literacy learners. We include learners in our activities and structures and we encourage them to link with and support other learners

We encourage and promote principles of good practice in literacy work

We encourage networking in literacy at the local, provincial and national level

We value partnerships and we work with other sectors on literacy issues

We value the contribution volunteers make to literacy work and we believe they should receive adequate training and support
