There are four mediums for computer-based activities in adult literacy:

- Email and conferencing software and platforms
Stand-alone systems using educational and/or word processing software for
instructional purposes include activities such as:

- tutorials

- problem solving
- reference
- authoring tools
- word processing and other computer applications
